Declaration of Sentiments
00:00 / 06:45
Modeled after the Declaration of Independence, the Declaration of Sentiments is a document with the goal of granting women the rights and privilege's that the Declaration of Independence gave men. Signed by 68 women and 32 men, the Declaration of Sentiments was a driving force towards women's rights in America. Primarily written by Stanton, the Declaration of Sentiments was initially met with hostility upon its publication but would soon become, like mentioned previously, a big step in women's rights. The Declaration would feature 12 resolutions with 11 being passed unanimously. The only resolution that wouldn't pass would be the call for women's suffrage, as many felt it was too controversial.
